Vanier will be present at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo: 2020 graduate and Valedictorian, Jacqueline Simoneau will compete in the artistic swimming events, and Head Athletic Therapist Max Hanna will be looking after the Canadian wrestling team. Jacqueline has been preparing for these Olympics for several years since she was to compete last summer before the games were postponed.
In mid-April, Simoneau and her partner Claudia Holzner returned to competition for the first time in over a year, winning the technical and free duet events at the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series in Budapest, then going on to win Gold in Barcelona just a few months later.
While studying at Vanier, Jacqueline represented Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio di Janeiro and qualified again for the 2020 Olympics that were to take place in July. Her athletic career has included winning four gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2015 and 2019 and numerous other international Championships. One thing Jacqueline makes very clear is the depth of her gratitude to Vanier and her teachers without whom she could not have pursued her Olympic career while continuing to study health science.
As for Max Hanna, who joined the Vanier staff in 2006, he is no stranger to high-level competitions given his work with Championship winning Vanier Cheetahs. Max has also worked with the Montreal Alouettes including years they won the Grey Cup.
The Olympic team is lucky to have Hanna on staff for the games. Max has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science: Specialization in Athletic Therapy from Concordia, a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science from McGill and a Diploma of Osteopathic Manipulative Practice focused in Osteopathic Medicine/Osteopathy from Southern Ontario College of Osteopathy.
Congratulations and good luck to Jacqueline Simoneau and Max Hanna.
