Aiming to strengthen the image and underline the value of CEGEP education Vanier College is participating in a campaign launched last week by Québec’s 48 public colleges. Grouped under the banner of the Fédération des cégeps the advertising campaign aims at highlighting the contribution CEGEPs make to Québec’s development. The messages in this multi-platform campaign will run over a three-year period and culminate in celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of CEGEPs.
“Vanier College is proud to participate in this ad campaign promoting the importance of Quebec’s colleges,” said Normand W. Bernier, Director General of Vanier College. “The CEGEP system is unique in Canada and is an ideal bridge between high school and university studies or the working world. It’s free and offers students a variety of programs and has also greatly contributed to the economic, social and cultural richness of Quebec.”
Large posters promoting the four key messages about the value of CEGEPs and higher education have already been posted in the college and video clips will be broadcast on VTV, Vanier’s on-line television network. The messages aim to reinforce students’ commitment to post-secondary education and highlight the importance of CEGEP studies.
**The “CÉGEP” tagline: the seal of quality, a source of pride **Approximately 50,000 students graduate from CEGEPs every year and go on to join the working world or pursue university studies. Thanks to CEGEPS, Québec ranks first in Canada for the number of 18- to 24-year-olds graduating with a post-secondary diploma.
CEGEPs provide students with a general education that makes them informed and open-minded citizens. The pre-university programs offered by CEGEPs are the springboard for university studies while the more than 130 CEGEP technical programs provide training and prepare a workforce that is highly valued by business and industry. Through research projects conducted within their labs and their centres for technology transfer, CEGEPs also contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the development of science.
