Vanier College is proud to announce that two student-athletes were recently awarded bursaries by the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence (FAEQ). Soccer players, Magali Gagné and Ann-Stéphanie Fortin, each received a $2000 bursary in the Academic Excellence category. In spite of the pandemic, the Foundation distributed $130,000 in individual bursaries to 47 student-athletes during a virtual ceremony held on February 4, 2021 via Zoom.

During the ceremony, 22 recipients received a Bourse d’excellence académique, which awards student-athletes who have maintained an average of 80% or higher in their recent studies, while 25 recipients received bursaries in the category of Bourse d’excellence académique et sportive that supports student athletes who have maintained a balance between their academic achievement and their sport .

Magali who is with the Lakeshore SC was a Silver medalist in the under 17-year olds at the October 2019 Canadian Championships and was named best scorer of the LSEQ AAA in the under 17-year olds, with 40 scores in 21 games, in the summer of 2019. Magali is a member of the Centre national de haute performance de Soccer Québec. She is a fast and well-coordinated player, which allows her to dribble past her rivals and land precise shots. She dreams of being part of the Canadian senior team and to play in a professional club.

Magali Gagné who had an academic average of 83 % in the fall semester of Social Science and Commerce at Vanier, would like to work in a field combining psychology and soccer when her sports career ends.

Ann-Stéphanie is in her second regular season with the Longueuil soccer club in the under 17-year olds category of the LSEQ AAA. In December 2019, she played in two friendly games against Mexico in the under 17-year olds category; she is also a member of the Centre national de haute performance de Soccer Québec. Ann-Stéphanie stands out in one-on-one duels and has excellent communication skills with her teammates. This goalie wants to participate once again in Canadian team camps and succeed with the Owls of Rice University in the NCAA next fall.

Ann-Stéphanie Fortin maintained an academic average of 82 % in the fall 2020 semester of her studies in Health Science at Vanier. She is passionate about art and architecture, and in the future would like to study in those fields in Houston.

Congratulations to these two excellent student-athletes and best of luck to them in their future endeavours.
