It’s always wonderful to discover what accomplishments Vanier students have outside of the classroom. For Pure and Applied Science student, Tatyana Soldera, it is equestrian events. She has competed in the national championships for horse jumping in a class called "Canadian Equestrian Team Medal" and was named third best junior rider in Canada!
Tatyana jumps with horses and there are 2 categories: the jumper and hunters. According to Tatyana, hunters are judged on the perfection of the arc and the beauty of the movement of the horse, whereas with the jumpers, it's about the time! The faster, the better! This past winter, Tatyana competed in the hunter category at the Winter Equestrian Festival at the Palm Beach International Center in Florida.
Tatyana says, “To be honest with you, since it was my dream to compete at this international horse show. I wasn’t expecting to do well because only the best are present, but I managed to win a few times! I was named champion of my division numerous times (Younger Adult Amateur) and also reserve champion (2nd place). During the most prestigious competition week, I was always in the top 5 and I also won a class! I was competing with over 80 competitors each week!”
While Tatyana puts in hard work on horses, she also maintains her studies at Vanier. For that, she gets some help from her teachers. To enable her to compete in the Equestrian Festival, Karl Laroche from the Science Department sorted out accommodations for her final exam in December so that Tatyana would be free to head to Florida to compete.
Congratulations to Tatyana Soldera and best of luck for the future.
