Vanier College is pleased to announce that Isabella Giosi, a graduate of the Social Science, Child Studies program, has been selected as Valedictorian for the class of 2022-23. When some 500 graduates from Vanier College gather at Place des Arts in Théâtre Maisonneuve on June 21, 2023 to celebrate the end of their CEGEP studies, Isabella will be there to address them and cheer them on.

In choosing Isabella, members of the Valedictorian selection committee were impressed with warmth and commitment to Vanier and with how involved she was during her time at Vanier where she represented her peers as the President of the Vanier College Students Association. “I have met so many students, staff and directors at the school,” she says. “I feel a strong connection of friendship towards all of them. It will be an honour to represent them at the graduation ceremony as Valedictorian.”

“I have always been willing to learn and put school first, all while being involved in extracurricular volunteering opportunities. I love helping others and creating change whenever it is needed,” says Isabella. Indeed, while at Vanier, Isabella received a Force Avenir bursary for "Most Engaged Student."

When it comes to creating change where needed, Isabella does not hesitate to step forward. She demonstrated her political and leaderships skills during Bill 96 protests in May 2022 when she addressed a crowd of protesters gathered on the Dawson College campus before a march through the streets of downtown Montreal, and spoke on behalf of Cegep students objecting to the proposed law. A few months later in Autumn 2022, she also presented herself as a Liberal candidate in the provincial election that year.

Isabella’s love for building community has led her to go far and wide from Calgary in Alberta to Chicoutimi here in Northern Quebec. After completing her CEGEP studies in December 2022, she dedicated the next five months to volunteering in various organizations and communities while learning and reconciling with the First Nations of Canada. She is currently volunteering with the governmental organization Katimavik.

In Autumn 2023, Isabella will begin studies at Concordia University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a view to becoming an elementary school teacher.

Congratulations to Isabella Giosi!
