St. Laurent, June 9th 2015- Vanier Honours Science Pure And Applied student Phoenix Roy has been named the valedictorian for the 2014-2015 Vanier College Graduating Class. Phoenix was chosen by a selection committee that received nominations from across the Vanier community. She will act as the official representative of all 2014-2015 Vanier graduates and will address the audience at the graduation ceremony taking place Wednesday June 17th at 7:30 p.m. at Place Des Arts.
“As a graduating student, it is a great honour for me to represent my fellow classmates as Valedictorian,” said Phoenix.
Phoenix is recognized by her teachers and peers as someone who is respectful and helpful in class, is always well prepared and is a source of inspiration. She has also been extremely active in different extracurricular activities both on and off the Vanier Campus. She played a key role in developing Vanier’s Robotics Team and this year she served as Team Captain where her leadership role played an instrumental role in Vanier winning first place honours at the CRC Robotics Competition. She has also been an active peer tutor in the Math & Science Centre, tutored for the CLÉO, in the French Department and participated in the Prix littéraire des collégiens du Québec and in the Joute Oratoire Intercollégiale, where her team won second Prize honours while competing against other colleges. Finally, Phoenix is a Sunday school teacher at her church where she serves as choir director and also works as a lifeguard and teaches swimming.
“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Phoenix. She is an academically strong Honours Science Student that strongly represents Vanier’s team spirit and is very much respected by faculty, staff and students so I think it’s highly fitting that she was chosen to represent this year’s graduating class. I wish her all the best for her future studies as she pursues the next chapter in her life,” said Vanier College’s Director General Normand W. Bernier.
