Vanier College is pleased to announce that Arianne Duchesne has been appointed Manager, Health Safety & Sustainability at the college, effective February 17, 2020.

Arianne will be reporting to the Director of Physical Plant & Facilities, acting in an advisory role and providing expertise in matters related to health and safety in the workplace as well as sustainability. Her mandate will consist of developing and implementing Health, Safety, and Sustainability policies, procedures and tools to address issues in consultation with stakeholders. She will assume a leadership role on the Health and Safety Committee and the Vanier College Advisory Committee on the Environment (VCACE). Arianne’s mandate will also include meeting the strategic objectives of the College, including initiating processes related to Vanier’s ‘carbon neutral’ commitment.

WHMIS-certified and very familiar with RBQ regulations in terms of building requirements and safety, Arianne most recently worked as a Water and Energy Manager in the industrial water treatment sector. Her previous work includes being WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Project Manager in Haiti, working on a project funded by UNICEF to fight cholera where she managed multiple community response teams.

Arianne holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (Chemical and Biological Engineering) from the University of British Columbia.

Arianne is a Vanier College graduate who played AAA basketball with the Cheetahs and won a National Championship. She also played varsity basketball while an undergraduate and now coaches the sport locally on a volunteer basis.

“Arianne will be an outstanding addition to the Vanier Community. Her background, experience and especially her passion for sustainability will be a tremendous asset for the College as we formulate our strategic objectives for the next five years”, said John McMahon, Director General.
