Due to overwhelming interest and feedback Vanier College has already surpassed its initial goal of finding 50 Faces of Vanier for its alumni website. Launched in December 2018, the 50 Faces of Vanier section of the website features people who have influenced or been influenced by Vanier College over the last five decades.
"Due to an outpouring of nominations, our 50 Faces of Vanier campaign was so successful we’ve had to rename it 50+ Faces of Vanier. We’re also proud to announce that our 51st addition to this illustrious list is none other than beloved Vanier retiree, Fran Davis,” said Darren Becker, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Vanier College.
According to Jock Mackay, retired Vanier Professor of Sociology, Humanities, and Explorations, “Fran taught in the English Department for many years, served as leader and coordinator as well as Dean of Science and General Studies (as it was then) for several years before retirement. She was the first recipient of the Vanier College Teaching Excellence Award. She served in a Cegep-wide capacity on a number of fronts, including the creation of the English exit test.”
In other 50th Birthday celebration developments, the official launch of the 50th Birthday celebrations is set for April 15, 2019 – with Vanier’s 21st Annual Big Band Benefit Concert. Held in the Vanier Auditorium starting at 7:30 pm., the concert will be hosted by André White, a Vanier alumnus now teaching at McGill University and very well known in local jazz circles. The concert will honour retired Vanier faculty member Shirley Pettifer. Tickets cost $10 and $ 5 for students and seniors. They are available by calling Glen Ethier in the Music department at extension 7322. You can also pick up your tickets by going to see Janelle Villanueva in F-224.
Also, to help promote our 50th celebrations and the big gala taking place on September 12th 2020 a large promotional banner has been installed just to the right of the main entrance of the College at 821 Ste Croix Ave.
Finally, the Gala Committee announced that the 50th Birthday Gala on September 12, 2020 is now set to take place at the Vanier Sports Complex on the same day as an afternoon homecoming Vanier Cheetahs football game.
