The RSF Helps Vanier Build Strong Foundations for Innovation!

November 17, 2025

The Government of Canada’s Research Support Fund (RSF) program has contributed nearly $430,000 to offset some of the indirect costs of federally-funded research at Vanier College over the past 20 years. Increased allocation amounts as of the 2018-2019 fiscal year highlight a period of sustained momentum in faculty-led research activity supported by competitive research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The RSF is an important complimentary source of funding to provincial (Québec) support, both of which help our institution to increase its research capacity and to flourish as a dynamic hub of creativity, inquiry, and meaningful impact! In 2024-2025 alone, the program allowed us to subsidize salaries within our Research Office, Finance Department and Library, to purchase access to publications relevant to interdisciplinary music studies, and to remain compliant with our federal Research Data Management (RDM) requirements.

We have chosen to showcase two of our 2024-2025 investments in greater detail, in order to demonstrate how RSF funds directly support our institutional research goals.

  • “RSF investment in research and innovation leadership” acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of Dr. Angela Vavassis, Research Officer and RSF/FIR institutional administrator, to Vanier’s research and innovation ecosystem.
  • “RSF investment in interdisciplinary music scholarship” describes the institutional impact of full text access to the Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM) Abstracts of Music Literature, according to Music Department professor and researcher, Dr. Catrina Flint.
