Registration

Registration is the process of selecting your courses for the upcoming semester. This page applies to newly admitted and current Vanier College students.

For visual guides and tips on registration, visit the Academic Advising Omnivox Community.

Placement tests

Before getting to the registration step, you must take the English Classification (Placement) test and may have to take a French placement test. Test dates and times will be indicated under Information and Messages on Omnivox.

Your French placement level will appear on your Progression Chart, on Omnivox, after evaluation of your test by the French department. The result you see after submitting the French test is provisional.

Exemptions: Only students who have already taken English as a first language in CEGEP or have previously completed the English Classification test may be exempt from the placement test. Students in Continuing Education DCS programs/courses do not have to take the test.

Registration process

Regular/day division students are pre-registered (automatically registered) for certain courses based on their program and progression. If you are a regular student, you must identify which courses you need and sign up for them during registration period.

Continuing Education students are not pre-registered for any courses, and therefore must consult their program's course list to know which courses to register for during the Continuing Education registration period.

1. Know how many courses to take

  • Pre-university students: Typically, a full course load is 7 courses per semester. The Social Science program has a heavier load of 8 courses in the third semester.
  • Career students: Refer to your course list for the specific number of courses required each semester. You can also check your Progression Chart on Omnivox.
  • Continuing Education students: Refer to your program Progression Chart on Omnivox if your program of study is General Social Science (300.AA) or Science (200.B0). If you are in Springboard or Requalification a DCS (081.C1 or 081.C2), contact Academic Advising

2. See what courses are available

It is recommended to use a computer (not a mobile device) when viewing the live schedule. You can see the teacher, times and description of each course by clicking on the section number or by using the arrow button and selecting "View details."

General Education courses

General Education courses have levels and sections. Sections can vary considerably in content. You must take the level that appears on your course list (e.g., 109-101)any section that corresponds to this level fulfills this requirement (e.g., Yoga, Hiking, Fitness, etc.). Be sure to view the course details for section-specific descriptions and information, if applicable.
