Vanier College is pleased to announce that Computer Science teacher, Alex Vilvert Steinheuser, was inducted by academic peers and accepted as a permanent member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History, and Literature (ABRASCI) at a ceremony held in Florida in late spring 2026.

ABRASCI has been active since 1910 when it was first known as the Brazilian Academy of History. It is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the development, research, and preservation of cultural, scientific, and artistic heritage in Brazil. ABRASCI works to promote Brazilian history and literature while recognizing key scientific and technological advancements, often interacting with other academic institutions.

“Being appointed and nominated as permanent member of ABRASCI, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History, and Literature is an honor that I carry with a deep sense of responsibility,” says Alex Vilvert Steinheuser.

“ABRASCI brings together researchers, writers, and professionals, such as José Honório Rodrigues, Basílio de Magalhães, Alberto do Rego Rangel, and others, who have dedicated their lives to the production of knowledge and the strengthening of scientific culture. Being part of this institution means participating in a century-old tradition of intellectual excellence and public commitment.”

Alex goes on to say that "For Vanier College, this appointment represents an international bridge that expands our academic visibility and reinforces the value of education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical thinking. I always carry the spirit of Vanier College with me, and I believe that this connection with ABRASCI opens up new opportunities for cooperation, cultural projects, and scientific initiatives that can benefit our students and further strengthen the College’s role in the global educational landscape.”

Congratulations to Alex Vilvert Steinheuser on this prestigious appointment.
