Vanier Women’s D1 Soccer Team Crowned 2026 Provincial Champions and heads to Nationals
Last weekend, Vanier Women's D1 soccer team won the provincial finals against Ahuntsic with a score of 1-0. What an incredible achievement for our women’s soccer team, who have captured their first ever Division 1 Provincial Championship title after an exciting and hard-fought competition! This historic victory marks the first time in our school’s history that our women’s soccer team has won a provincial gold medal, making this accomplishment even more special and memorable.
The road to the championship began with a thrilling semifinal matchup against (2) Collège Montmorency. The game ended in a 1–1 tie, sending both teams into a shootout. Vanier College’s Goalkeeper, Charleze Vecera, rose to the occasion, making a crucial save on the sixth shot to secure the victory and send the Cheetahs through to the championship game.
In the championship final, our team faced (1) Collège Ahuntsic, a formidable opponent that had not conceded a single goal all season. Knowing the challenge ahead, the team relied on strong teamwork, defense and contributions from players throughout the bench. At the 37th minute, Kiera Pascale delivered a beautiful corner kick that led to a header goal by Natasha Safulko. As well, Charleze Vecera was once again outstanding, making key saves and helping keep Ahuntsic off the scoreboard in order for the Cheetahs to capture the gold medal.
With this incredible provincial championship victory, the Cheetahs will play at the CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship at Conestoga College located in Cambridge, Ontario from November 11 to 14, 2026, giving them the opportunity to represent our school on the national stage!
Congratulations to our student-athletes and Head Coach Noureddine Lachhab and his coaching staff on this remarkable accomplishment. The Vanier College Community is incredibly proud of you - bring on Nationals!
Special Shoutout to the following players: Both Charleze Vecera and Lily-Rose Crevier received RSEQ MVP for the championship weekend and RSEQ Provincial Championship All-Star while Natasha Safulko, Clara Maute and Kiera Pascale received RSEQ Provincial Championship All-Star.
