After a highly successful first semester of classes, Vanier College is thrilled with the response to its Vanier College Music School launched in September 19, 2022. The school’s capacity has now expanded and can accept more students for the winter semester after-school and weekend lessons in all instruments as well as voice. Vanier has also added more instruments to the selection of lessons available. Enrollments are now underway. Lessons start on January 26.
The need is great for private music lessons since the gradual disappearance of school bands and music classes in Montreal elementary and secondary schools has meant that students wanting to study music at the Cegep level are not able to get any training in preparation for advanced learning.
"Music lessons should not just be for the elite,” says Alena Perout Alena Perout, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Business, and Social Science at Vanier College. Hence, the Sheldon Sazant Memorial Fund was created to facilitate and support students who want to take music lessons. All students can apply for a scholarship, which will be used to subsidize the cost of lessons as well as the rental or purchase of instruments.
