In May, 2025, the Vanier College Indigenous Studies certificate program, in collaboration with the A’nó:wara Indigenous student centre, held their bi-annual Graduation Conference. The event was facilitated by Tealey Ka’senni:saks and Diane Labelle, from the First Nations Adult Education School Council.
Congratulations to the students who received the Indigenous Studies Certificate:
The event also honoured Indigenous student graduate Mercedes Petawabano, who hails from Mistassini in Eeyou Itschee, and who graduated from the Communications, Media, and Studio Arts program. As well, faculty member Alyson Jones, was celebrated and thanked for her work as the outgoing coordinator of the Indigenous Studies Certificate for the past 5 years.
It was a beautiful day for celebrating with almost 50 members of our community, including students, teachers, staff, administrators, and family in attendance. Thank you to everyone who helped with the event!
For the new fall semester, a welcome goes out to faculty member Maro Adjemian (Humanities) as the new Coordinator of the Indigenous Studies program and the Truth and ReconciliAction Speakers’ Series. We are looking forward to a dynamic year!
