Vanier Choir Concert December 10th, honouring 300th Anniversary of the St Laurent Parish

December 8, 2021

Mark your calendars for the upcoming choir concert at Église St-Laurent on December 10th, 2021 at 7.30 pm. It’s a thrilling prospect since the concert will be open to the public with vaccine passports and masks at all times.

This is the first collaboration between the music departments of Cégep St-Laurent and Vanier College – and hopefully not the last! The concert will honor of the 300th anniversary of the St-Laurent Parish, a project postponed a few times due to Covid, but that will finally take place.

There will be a short piece presented in honor of the Ste-Croix nuns, who live next door to us, composed by Soeur Nazaire (a composer who is part of their Community) called Hymne de louange. The other pieces are the coronation anthem no.2 by Handel Let Thy Hand be Strengthened and Mozart’s Majestic Coronation mass in C major.

The orchestra is provided by Cégep St-Laurent and the choir by Vanier. Top notch soloists will be featured: Jacqueline Woodly soprano, Geneviève Lévesque Mezzo-soprano, Antoine Bélanger tenor, and Alexandre Sylvestre bass.

The event will last about 70 minutes and will include a short presentation on the history of the religious communities on Ste-Croix avenue and the establishment of cégeps in the early 1970’s.

Since there is no limit on audience numbers, let’s all take in what promises to be a wonderful start to the Holiday Season.
