December 15, 2023

Vanier College is pleased to announce that the College’s Board of Directors has nominated Haig Basmajian for a second 3-year term as the representative of the Vanier Alumni Technical Studies category, effective November 30, 2023. Haig’s mandate as Chair was also renewed and he will continue to serve as the Chairman of the Board in that respect.

Haig is a Vanier Business Administration graduate who went on to acquire a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University followed by Law degrees from the University of Ottawa. He is a member of the Barreau du Québec and has acquired considerable experience from the public sector (Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada and Correctional Services Canada) as well as from industry leaders in entertainment (Cirque du Soleil) and aerospace (Bombardier and CAE).

In addition to Haig Basmajian’s nomination, other appointments to the Board of Directors were made this past year. Aishwarya Nair was chosen by her peers to replace Angela Vavassis as a representative of the Vanier non-teaching professional category, effective Jan 1, 2024. Previously this year, Régine Alende Tshombokongo and Nadia Gioia were appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) on June 15, 2023 to serve for 3-year terms in the Socio Economic and Labour Market categories, respectively. As well, the Board welcomed the VCSA appointment of Elizabeth Stavrakakis and Anne Martyn as representatives for the Pre-University and Technical Programs categories, respectively, for 1-year terms commencing on June 1, 2023 and February 28, 2023.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the College and is composed of nineteen members who serve on a voluntary basis and represent industry, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, parents and students. The Board meets approximately eight times per academic year and oversees certain college operations, establishes major college policies, and develops academic and related plans.

Congratulations to all the new Board members and best of luck in fulfilling their responsibilities.
