[Vanier College is pleased to welcome two student groups from Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences who are taking courses at Vanier College as part of an ongoing collaboration between Vanier and Shanghai University. This is the third time Shanghai University students take courses organized by International Education at Vanier. For three weeks, 27 students and one teacher are here to brave the Montreal cold and take nursing and other health-related courses. One group are nurses and will have classes focused on Canadian nursing systems and techniques with teachers from the Vanier Nursing Program. The second group have wide health interests and experience, and will have classes from the Respiratory and Anesthesia, Special Care Counselling and Nursing Programs.

The students will also be visiting hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, and university Faculties of Medicine during their stay in Montreal in order to get a good sense of Canadian medical systems, and be able to make comparisons to Chinese systems.

During their visit, the students are staying with homestay families around the city, and will be going on excursions to Niagara Falls, Toronto and Ottawa. The students started their visit Sunday, January 13 with a bus tour of Montreal and a shopping excursion to buy winter boots to tackle Canadian snow and ice.

"The overall purpose of the visit is an academic, linguistic and cultural learning experience for these students, and we are pleased to be able to offer this to the students from Shanghai", stated Rowena Selby, International Manager in Continuing Education. "We are also very sure that learning will happen both ways, because this is such an enriching learning experience for our Vanier teachers, the homestay hosts, and those working directly with the students in Continuing Education".

The Shanghai University students will be visiting Vanier until February 1st. The visit will conclude with a graduation certificates ceremony on January 31, 2019.]
