In Memoriam: Janine O’Leary Cobb 1933-2025

Born in Montreal, Janine grew up mostly in Ottawa. Janine raised a family and had a varied career before deciding to go back to school to obtain a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in Sociology. Subsequently she taught at Concordia University then at Vanier College.

When she experienced menopause, she began writing an 8-page newsletter called “A Friend Indeed”, which she sent to a few friends. As interest in her writing grew, she stopped teaching and started working on the newsletter full-time, growing it to thousands of monthly subscribers. Her book, Understanding Menopause, first published in 1988, was reprinted six times.
