For a second year VanierHacks 2026 is a great success!

March 26, 2026

More than 125 students from various regions around the province reveled in 48 hours of innovation and creativity at VanierHacks 2026. It was the first hackathon experience for more than half of this year’s participants. The Vanier CSSA (Vanier College Computer Science Student Association) organized this free event held on March 21 and 22, where fun, games and food were on the menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner keeping everyone fueled up for a good time and invention.

Inaugurated last year, this is Vanier’s own hackathon running for a second time. It’s an opportunity for participants to collaborate with passionate students, build unforgettable memories, solve exciting challenges, learn new technologies, network with mentors and boost their CVs and LinkedIn profiles. Plus win some great prizes.

The events centered on 38 challenges in a Capture the Flag (CTF) modality designed entirely by the Computer Science Student Association. In this format, the groups needed to solve puzzles one by one. The team that solved all the challenges in the shortest time became the champion.

“Whether a beginner or an experienced coder, this event was open to anyone,” said Alex Vivert Steinsheuser, Vanier Computer Science teacher. “Participants didn’t need to be experts! They just needed curiosity, motivation, and the courage to try.”

By all accounts, participants had a good time, “Honestly, this was a great hackathon/CTF, and I would love to come back next time!” said one student. Another added, “The environment was more than great. It’s my first hackathon where I felt so comfortable asking questions. Special mention to the teacher, Alex and also to Jonas a Vanier CSSA member, who helped out the whole weekend.”
