Javeria Siddique – A mom, a student, a nurse
"Vanier prepared me to do a Bachelor of Nursing at McGill University and helped me become a successful nurse."
While completing my degree in biology, I discovered a passion for health and the human body. For that reason, I chose to pursue Nursing as my career at Vanier College. The Nursing Program provides a rich experience in a wide variety of clinical settings. Being a mom of two small children while studying full time was only manageable because of the amazing support I received from my nursing teachers who continuously motivated me to do my best. For my final rotation, I had the opportunity to travel and practice in Malawi, an experience that has left a lasting impression. The knowledge and experience I gained through my clinical internships and Vanier courses not only prepared me to do a Bachelor of Nursing at McGill University, but also helped me become a successful nurse.

Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care
Hello, my name is Demetra Horotan and I am a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialized in adult and pediatric family practice. My nursing journey started in 2009 when I has the privilege of studying Nursing at Vanier College. At the time, I wanted to find a career that was challenging, interesting, hands-on but mostly exciting. Well, I found all that and more.
Choosing the Nursing program at Vanier College was one of the best decisions I ever made. It prepared me for my future studies at McGill University, both at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. I am forever grateful for the exceptional education I have received. I feel privileged and proud to be a Vanier College graduate.
Advice to Cegep students
The Nursing Program at Vanier has helped build the foundation of what I can now call my own practice. The Faculty, along with the program Dean and Advisors, all work towards promoting student success in both the clinical and academic spheres. I had the chance to practice and learn under the supervision of highly educated Nursing teachers who allowed me to grow and thrive for excellence. Furthermore, the program did not only prepare me to be a nurse, but it also taught me how to treat individuals with respect, dignity and worth. The Malawi Nursing Exchange allowed me to complete my final clinical placement abroad in 2012. This opportunity taught me about cultural competence and diversity and was truly an incredible experience.
