Jean Carole Chalk

It is with sadness that Vanier College learned of the recent passing of Jean Carole Chalk on December 11, 2023.

A gifted teacher of mathematics, Jean taught calculus to students at Vanier from September 1, 1973 until her retirement on June 13, 2003, excelling at helping students with math anxiety. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in math education from the University of Wisconsin (Madison), and completed doctoral courses in math education at the University of Maryland (College Park).

Jean was known among her colleagues, friends, and family members for her thoughtful and wise advice, her empathy and problem-solving skills, her sincerity, and her strong commitment to making the world a better place.

Family members and close friends will be meeting to celebrate Jean’s life on December 16, 2023. Donations to the Alzheimer Groupe Incorporated, 5555 Westminster Ave, Suite 304, Montreal, Quebec H4W 2J2, will be gratefully acknowledged by Jean’s family.
