Beverly Chandler

It is with deep sadness that Vanier has learned of the passing of Beverly Chandler on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Beverly was born in Shawinigan Falls, QC and grew up in St. Lambert. She graduated from McGill University and the University of Toronto. Her field was information management. She assumed positions of increasing responsibility at the University of Alberta, Redpath Library of McGill University, and finally Vanier College—where she retired only ten years ago.

Former colleagues as well as newcomers and strangers to Vanier College are touched every day by Beverley when they come up the front drive of the college and pass the iconic Vanier sign on the grass – an installation that was part of a years-long signage project that Beverly initiated and managed. It’s a daily reminder of a woman whose warmth, generosity, caring and intelligence marked those who knew her and worked with her in the various departments she managed, most notably Communications, Admissions, Advising and the Library.

Beverly was an active learner all her life with a wide range of interests. Even near her end, she was writing about early twentieth-century social work in Montreal. During her last summer, she and a friend convinced the City of Westmount to launch a program of gentle exercise for older adults.
