The Vanier Music Department is part of Maurice Bouchor’s single-act Le Songe de Khéyam for rod-and-lever puppets with live music that will take place May 16th at the Chapelle Historique du Bon Pasteur. The show, which is part of the Music and Machines Conference, is directed by Maude Paradis of the Vanier Music School and Claudine Rivest, with musical direction by Vanier alumnus Dmitri Zrajevski, and featuring puppets by master artisan Mirek Trejtnar of Kidpraha in Prague.

The show involves a number of current and former Vanier College students, with original music by Leo Purich, vocal performance by Kevisha Williams, puppeteering by Alex O’Neill and Kian Nojoumian, and horn playing by Molly MacGregor-Griffin. Research assistance for this show and the wider project it is part of has also involved many current and former Vanier students: Alumnae Zara Fox and Sofie Tsatas, and current students Jasmin Goring, Giuliana Mercuri, and Paulina Vargas. Music Department coordinator Glen Ethier and teacher Wayne Richardson generously contributed their time and effort to this project as well, for everything ranging from artistic and technical support, to logistical arrangements.

The show is free, but anyone who wishes to attend absolutely must absolutely register to put their name on the guest list. Otherwise, the security guard at the Chapelle won’t let you in. This can be done by filling out this form and checking the box that says ‘May 16th, evening’:

Anyone who wants to come during the day to attend all or part of the conference on Music and Machines is most welcome to do that. Simply check off the dates and times that apply, and indicate any food allergies (lunch is supplied but we need to know numbers).
