In order to meet its strategic objectives, Vanier College is seeking an Academic Dean.
This individual will provide the community with academic leadership and a clear vision for how our institution can best serve current and future learners. The College does find itself in the midst of adapting to a variety of changes and challenges – a document summarizing such challenges will be provided to applicants separately. Therefore, applicants for Academic Dean at Vanier College should have demonstrated ability, and motivation for, adapting and leading through change while maintaining and recognizing the sense of community and belonging.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director General, the Academic Dean is responsible for all aspects of the administration of academic programs at Vanier, and within the existing administrative structures, for the attainment of the College’s academic objectives. The Academic Dean presides over Academic Council and ensures the implementation, promotion and adherence to the Strategic Plan across the Academic sector. The Academic Dean is also responsible for the implementation of the Student Success Plan while promoting a student-centred environment and pedagogy across the Academic division. Another major responsibility is the development of a Strategic Enrolment Plan for regular programs and responding to the requirements of the Quebec Language Charter (Bill 96). The Academic Dean is responsible for maintaining professional, respectful and effective relations within the Academic Sector. The Academic Dean also develops, coordinates and approves all budgets in the Academic Sector.
Key Experience and Competencies:
• Post-graduate academic qualifications at the Masters or Ph.D. level.
• At least five years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
• At least five years of experience in educational administration, in a CEGEP.
• Ability to promote student success and the principles of a student-centered institution.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
• A strong, demonstrated commitment to Quality Assurance processes.
• Knowledge of Vanier’s history, culture and current situation (an asset).
• A clear understanding of the challenges facing the English post-secondary educational milieu in Québec, including the Quebec Language Charter (Bill 96).
• A clear understanding of the nature and importance of Technology and Pre-University programs at Vanier and in the Quebec CEGEP system.
• Knowledge of international and inter-institutional ventures in college education and other levels of higher education.
• Appropriate knowledge of financial management.
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity.
• Excellent command of English and French (oral and written).
