Vanier College is proud to congratulate Vanier Continuing Education Software Development ACS students Aryan Arora, Jolson Eric Cruz, Jerry Joy and Kelly Vergara for winning at the 2024 Université de Montréal Hackathon du DIRO held on February 24-25, 2024. Vanier students took away top place in two out of three categories, winning Best Development Practice and Best Implementation of LLM (Large Language Model). Competing were a total of eight teams from Cégep Bois-de-Boulogne, Cégep Maisonneuve, Vanier College and Cégep Gérald-Godin.
The Vanier students created a never-ending fantasy world RPG (Role Play Game) that is personalized to the player and his or her interests. The game creates a unique storyline based on the input the player gives and provides the player with three options at each step so the player gets to control how the story moves forward, all of this is again powered by the LLM.
Vanier students ended up creating the game as a progressive web app hosted online so people could play it on any device desktop or mobile.
Students won a lifetime license of the Antidote software application.
Vanier student Aryan Arora truly enjoyed the experience. “I want to thank Vanier for the opportunity to attend the event, it was really fun. We were challenged to use an LLM to create a role-playing game. The hosts and other participants were really nice and we enjoyed the food as well. Additionally, we loved the opportunity to see and use the UdM campus.”
