Research
The Government of Canada’s Research Support Fund (RSF) program has contributed nearly $430,000 to offset some of the indirect costs of federally-funded research at Vanier College over the past 20 years. Thanks in part to these contributions, Vanier continues to increase its research capacity and to flourish as a dynamic hub of creativity, inquiry, and meaningful impact.
The majority of this funding has been allocated to our institution since the 2018-2019 fiscal year, highlighting an 8-year period of sustained momentum in faculty-led research activity supported by competitive research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Vanier has put these resources toward supporting the management and administration of our research and innovation ecosystem. With increasing amounts of funding in recent years, additional investment areas have included research resources, research facilities and public-facing knowledge mobilization efforts.
The RSF is an important complimentary source of funding to provincial (Quebec) support for Vanier’s indirect costs of research. Last year alone, the program allowed us to subsidize salaries within our Research Office, Finance Department and Library, to purchase access to publications relevant to interdisciplinary music studies, and to remain compliant with our federal Research Data Management (RDM) requirements.
Our RSF allocation has grown over time but remains relatively modest as compared to allocations provided to more prominent research institutions, commensurate with the current size of our federally-funded research activity. Nonetheless, due in part to the RSF’s financial contributions, Vanier continues to increase its research capacity and to flourish as a dynamic hub of creativity, inquiry, and meaningful impact.
We are pleased to highlight two of the strategic investments made with Vanier’s 2024–2025 RSF allocation of $56,735, which demonstrate how these funds directly support our institutional research goals:
