Congratulations to Vanier graduate, Alison Levine, who is heading for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Alison, who graduated from Special Care Counselling in 2013, ranks no. 1 in the world in the BC4 category in boccia, the first woman to ever reach that height in the BC4 category in boccia. She attained that ranking in 2019 and has maintained it since then.
While being confined to a wheelchair fulltime since 2012, Alison has been an avid athlete for many years, competing and excelling in a variety of adapted sports that have changed over time as her disability evolved.
Alison is truly an inspiration, someone who has chosen to focus on what she can do rather than what she cannot. “While dealing with a debilitating condition that robs me of my independence, I make the best of it,” she writes on her website. “If it were not for my disability, I would probably never have had the opportunity or honor to represent my country or get to spend my days playing a sport I love. Paralympic sport requires me to push through barriers to achieve my goals, allows me to be proud of who I am no matter how I look, and gives me the courage to be the best that I can be.”
The list of Alison’s athletic accomplishments is long and impressive: a bronze medal in pairs at the Lima 2019 Parapan Am Games, fifth at the 2016 Paralympic Games, a silver medal in mixed pairs at the 2015 Parapan American Games with Marco Dispaltro. and a series of other gold, silver and bronze medals in international competitions going all the way back to 2014.
