Thirty one robots will aim for the top at Vanier College during the 14th Annual 2015 CRC Robotics Competition

It’s going to be another exciting time when student-made robots face off in the Actimania game during the 14th Annual CRC Robotics Competition taking place February 12-14, 2015. More than 500 eager and ambitious high school and cegep students will take over the Vanier College Sports Complex and call on their imagination and ingenuity in the hope of winning the title of the best robot and the best team.

A working robot is only one part of the challenge. In this competition as in today’s work world, it takes all kinds of talents for a project to succeed. For instance, on an engineering project, there’s a design and building team, a management team, a marketing team of artists and writers and a team of website designers. It’s this range of abilities and the sense of team spirit that the CRC Robotics Competition aims to recognize with awards in Robot (Game), bilingual Video production, Kiosk, Website, and Engineering Design, and Sportsmanship.

The CRC Robotics Competition is unique because it’s the only robotics competition where all the work is done exclusively by students – teachers, engineers, and outside specialists are welcome but for advice only. Except for a motor and a control box that each team receives, everything about the robot, the kiosk, the video, and the website is conceived and built by the students, and where language is necessary, both French and English must be used.

“The greatest joy that I get from working on the Robotics competition is the presence of recurring participants from year to year who dedicate a lot of effort to the CRC Robotics competition and are completely hooked on what we do,” says Simon Marcoux one of the organizers of the competition. “Some of them even decide to cross the barrier and give back to our organization as volunteers once they can't participate anymore. We like to believe that we have created a small community around our competition and to see it grow and to be able to reach more students each year is really what this competition is all about: providing the most dynamic classroom of their life.”

The CRC Robotics competition runs February 12-14, 2015. It’s an event for the whole family where the kids really get excited and involved. It’s fun. It’s lively. It’s colorful. It’s free! It’s open to all. For details visit: CRC - Robotique CRC Robotics
