17th Scotiabank Vanier Marketing Case Competition

February 28, 2022

After a full year hiatus due to Covid-19, Vanier College is thrilled to announce that the Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition will be back up and running once again on March 4th and 5th, 2022. This year 12 Colleges and Cegeps from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec will be in Montreal to compete in both official languages for the National Collegiate Marketing case competition.

“This will be our 17th year anniversary since the inaugural event,” says George Dracopoulos, Vanier Case Competition Co-Founder and principal organizer. “After a year without a case competition, it is great to see that so many colleges and Cegeps were interested in participating once again. Everyone is hungry for a return. Demand far exceeded the capacity set for this year. The dedication of the teams to travel to attend despite the numerous obstacles is a true testament to the popularity of the event, the value our community sees in the student experience, and the true dedication of all our coaches, participants, and other stakeholders from every corner of the country. It’s wonderful to be back to offer students this unique opportunity for engagement and inspiration.”

The main competition will take place on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel (Montreal Airport), 7000 Place Robert-Joncas, (514-339-5333). Team presentations begin at 9:45 AM and run until 4:45 PM on Saturday.  That evening, the gold, silver, and bronze awards will be announced at a gala dinner starting at 7:00 PM.

“Case competitions challenge our students to develop their skills, deliver quality solutions under pressure, achieve personal development, and strive for excellence. This training and this format will serve them well in their future corporate, philanthropic, or entrepreneurial pursuits,” indicates George Dracopoulos. “To be selected to their teams, students must compete internally at their respective colleges. The successful candidates demonstrate a combination of analytic capabilities, creativity, and mastery of marketing theory and application.” Students Cameron Fraser, Isabella Potenza, Malory Mathieu, and Leila Malito, join Head Coach Megan Pepe, to form the Vanier team.

Case competitions demand imagination, knowledge, clear thinking, and good presentation skills. During the Case Competition students, in teams of three, are isolated for three hours to analyze a real-world marketing problem they have never seen before, create a PowerPoint presentation then present a marketing plan before a panel of experts from business, industry, and higher education.  The cases are prepared annually by top authors and professors from Universities and Colleges from across the nation. The teams are judged on the practicality and value of their solutions, and the quality of their presentations.

Scotiabank is the principal sponsor of the Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition, and we sincerely thank them for their valuable continued support in student development and career growth for these young exceptional individuals.
