Vanier College is pleased to announce that Kelly Purdy has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of General Education. Kelly has been a teacher in the Psychology Department since coming to Vanier in 2004 and has been the Coordinator of the department for the past 5 years. During that time she developed and taught courses for almost every program-specific competency in the Social Science Program and created a new course framework for a course on the Psychology of Music. Since 2006, she has been actively involved in the department working on initiatives to welcome new Psychology Major students to their program.
From 2008 to 2012, Kelly was the Program Coordinator - Social Science Methodology, responsible for facilitating interdisciplinary meetings with coordinators and teachers across all departments of the Social Science and Commerce Program. In addition to her coordinating and teaching positions, Kelly has also been a member of more than a dozen Vanier committees, including the Research Ethics Board, the IPESA Revision Working Group, the Social Science Program Evaluation Committee, and Academic Council.
Kelly holds a Doctorate of Philosophy, PhD, in Experimental Psychology, McGill University, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Psychology), Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Music, Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick.
Vanier Academic Dean, Annie-Claude Banville, is delighted to welcome Kelly to the Academic Steering Committee. “Kelly’s involvement at Vanier College in various committees and as coordinator will benefit the community. Her listening, communications skills, and her interest in all programs and disciplines will make her a valuable team player. The Faculty of General Education and the Learning Commons will benefit from her collaborative and student-centered approach. I look forward to her contribution to the Academic Sector and to the College,” said Annie Claude Banville.
Kelly Purdy will begin her new position on March 15, 2021.
