Joint statement from Dawson College and Vanier College regarding the Administrative Inquiry Report

June 27, 2025

Dawson College and Vanier College were informed early on Friday, June 27, of the report of administrative inquiry into the management of situations involving behaviour that could reasonably cause concern for the physical or psychological safety of students (hereinafter “the Report”).

We wish to first express our surprise at having received the Report after it was shared with the media. While we are still in the process of conducting a thorough analysis, certain key elements are already evident.

We are pleased that the Report acknowledges the rigour of our practices, particularly with regard to student safety. It confirms that both our institutions identify and address problems in a timely and fair manner and that we offer various services to prevent, detect, and correct problematic situations when they arise. The numerous cases mentioned in the report illustrate our serious and responsible approach, carried out in compliance with the legal and regulatory frameworks and using the resources at our disposal, always guided by our commitment to provide a safe environment where differences can be expressed freely, in a spirit of inclusion and dialogue.

Four of the Report's recommendations fall under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education and apply to the entire college network. Accordingly, we defer to the Ministry to evaluate them, engage in discussions with the college network, and determine any follow up actions.

The last two recommendations in the Report are specific to each of our institutions:
As this investigation concludes, we hope that this process will help strengthen our cohesion around our differences and support a continuous effort to improve the learning environment we offer our student communities.

We reaffirm our strong commitment to our educational mission and our responsibility to develop engaged and curious citizens capable of dialogue.
