Residential Building Inspection Techniques RAC

This program offers formal recognition in the form of an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) diploma for Residential Building Inspection (RBIT) competencies through the RAC evaluation process. Competencies reflect the essential skills, technical knowledge, and judgment required for professional practice in residential building inspection. The RAC process is designed to be flexible, with the timeline varying depending on the number of competencies assessed from the ACS program. Candidates can continue working full-time while progressing through the evaluation, with the support of RAC Content Specialists who are available during evenings and weekends.

A key step in the RAC admission process is the Validation Interview, where Content Specialists assess the candidate’s experience and expertise. Admission requirements

To be admitted to a RAC program leading to an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) in Residential Building Inspection Techniques, candidates must possess one of the following academic requirements (in addition to general eligibility criteria):

A DVS/DEP (Diploma of Vocational Studies / Diplôme d’études professionnelles)
A SSD/DES (Secondary School Diploma / Diplôme d’études secondaires)
A SSET/TENS (Secondary School Equivalency Test / Test d'équivalence de niveau de scolarité)
A GED (General Educational Development Test)
Completion of Secondary 4 with significant related work experience
A high school diploma obtained outside Quebec or Canada

Candidates must demonstrate significant and relevant work experience in residential building inspection. For admission to the ACS in Residential Building Inspection Techniques, acceptable experience may include:

Professional experience in home inspections, including the completion of formal reports for pre-purchase or pre-acceptance inspections
Operating your own inspection-related business
Completion of Vanier’s 200-hour Residential Building Inspection Certificate, or an equivalent program from a recognized institution
Certified experience in residential construction trades—such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or structural work—demonstrating practical, inspection-relevant skills
