Vanier College was truly saddened to learn of the death of Vera Fedchun on July 18, 2009. Vera was a retired faculty member and former coordinator of the Vanier Nursing Department. She was also a trustee with the University Women’s Club of Montreal.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to her family as well as to her many friends and colleagues.

FEDCHUN, Vera Love. July 8, 1939 – July 18. 2009. 
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera after a brief devastating illness at Sacré Coeur Hospital, July 18, 2009. The beloved daughter of the late Stephen and Anne Fedchun of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Vera is survived by her brother John, sister-in-law Lindy, cherished nephew John, and dear niece Katie of St. Catharines, Ontario.

Vera graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto and later received her B.Sc. in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario. She taught nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto before moving to Montreal where she was employed at Vanier College first as a nursing teacher and later as the Coordinator of the Nursing Department.

Vera was a dedicated professional, active volunteer, and caring friend to many, always available and generous in helping others. She was an ardent swimmer, walker, cyclist, traveler, music lover, and loyal Expos fan. Vera was an active parishioner at Transfiguration of Our Lord and a Board member of the Foundation of the University Women’s Club of Montreal. She will be sorely missed.
Special thanks to the staff of Sacré Coeur for their caring professional manner and to her Aunt Veronica, her Uncle Karl, and her loving ”Circle of Friends” who helped make her final days as comfortable as possible.

Visitation at the Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd., (corner Isabella) on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, 11775 Filion St., Mtl., H4J 1T4, on Friday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m.

At a later date, a memorial service will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario and Vera will be buried beside her parents. Donations in her memory may be made to the University Women’s Club of Montreal Public Foundation, 3529 Atwater Ave., Mtl., H3H 1Y2, or to Transfiguration of Our Lord Church or a charity of your choice.
