Roman Bodhan Mycio

It is with deep regret that Vanier has learned of the passing of Roman Mycio after four hard-fought weeks at Charles-Lemoyne Hospital.  His hope had been to return to his cherished home and have his final weeks surrounded by familiarity, quiet and his cat, Monsieur Gris.  Sadly, this was not to be.

Roman was born on February 18th, 1955, in Brantford, Ontario.  In his late teens, he ventured overseas to discover Europe and Israel where he matured and experienced new friendships that would last his entire life.  Upon returning to Canada, he continued his studies at the University of Toronto then the University of Ottawa.  While in Ottawa, he met the individual who would play the most important role in his life, his future husband, Hubert Gagnon.  In the early 1980s, accompanying Hubert back to Montreal, Roman and he settled in Longueuil and moved forward with their new lives.

Roman started working casually at Vanier in the late 80s: first in the Mailroom, followed by the Bookstore and finally in the Accounting Department.  In 2005, due to increasing health issues, Roman went on long-term disability. He subsequently retired in 2015.

Roman was a complex and sensitive individual. To those who knew him, Roman gave of himself:  a kindness, a gentleness and a sense of humour that we will remember with fondness and pause.

As per his wishes, there was no visitation or funeral, and cremation has already taken place.  At a future date, a celebration of life will be organized with Roman’s nearest and dearest, his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal rescue shelter or to the charity of your choice.
