Akio Nakamura came to Montreal from Tokyo, Japan with a B. of Sc. Degree in Economics from Komazawa U. He joined Vanier in the early 70’s as a Martial Arts specialist in both Judo and Karate.

An elite skier (competitor and instructor), and an exceptional golfer, his passion for skiing and golf is legendary. Akio enjoyed playing in a jazz ensemble with friends and was also well known for his expertise as a sushi chef.

Akio’s ready smile and friendly greetings made a strong impact on all his students. Unfortunately Akio was struck down with a very fast acting and aggressive cancer this past August, which he had fought with great dignity.

His fighting spirit and friendly character continues to live in all our hearts and is wonderfully personified in his wife, Louise and their three beautiful daughters.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Sensei Nakamura. He was a teacher and a friend with great spirit, humour and fortitude. He will be sorely missed.
