Good luck to Cedar Hendry, a second year Vanier Honours Science and Sport Etudes student who will be competing in lead climbing at the IFSC (International Federation of Sports Climbing) World Cup in Koper, Slovenia on September 5-6. This will be Cedar’s first World Cup on the open circuit. Last August, prior to starting at Vanier, Cedar competed in the Youth World Championships in China in the disciplines of speed, lead, and bouldering.
Representing Team Canada in international competition has been a life-long goal for Cedar. She was first introduced to rock climbing at the age of two and has been competing since the age of nine. Last year, Cedar received Elite Status from Sport Quebec in recognition of her high level of achievement and potential in her sport. Her selection to Team Canada this year is the culmination of a decade of successes at the provincial and national level.
As a Sport Etudes student, Cedar has balanced the demands of academics and climbing. Last May, Cedar was Canadian Youth National Champion in bouldering and silver medalist in lead climbing while also maintaining a 90% GPA in the Pure & Applied Science program.
Upon graduation from Vanier, Cedar intends to pursue an undergraduate degree in Biology.
Best of luck to Cedar Hendry.
