To learn the basic concepts of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and produce a practical project-based application.

This introductory certificate provides a hands-on, project-based exploration into the fundamentals of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) used in industrial automation. Learners will gain core knowledge of PLC hardware, software, logic programming (ladder logic), I/O systems, and basic system commissioning. Emphasis is placed on building practical skills through interactive labs, simulations, and the development of a functional automation project.

Content:

  • Introduction to PLC hardware, software, programming language, signals, logic and sensors
  • System Commissioning: basic settings, security and configuration for typical PLCs
  • Project Startup: building functional programs to complete automation and sequence events in a programmable fashion
  • Theory and Practical components to support students in creating useful programs in a wide range of applications
  • Development of procedures to breakdown technical problems into manageable tasks in automated environments
  • How to create technical documentation providing necessary references for project code
