It was a relatively quiet week for Cheetahs varsity teams as both our Division 1 Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams had a week off. The Division 1 Women and Men Hoopsters will next play a home doubleheader on Friday, November 23rd. The Lady Cheetahs face Trois-Rivières starting at 7:00 PM, while the Div.1 Men host John Abbott College starting at 9:00 PM.

However our Division 2 Men’s Basketball team had a very busy weekend with two games played.

Our Div.2 Men’s Basketball Cheetahs played two games this weekend and both were contested at home in front of their Vanier fans. In their first game on Friday evening, the Div.2 Men took a decisive 89-73 win over the visiting team from Maisonneuve, improving their season record to 2 wins and 3 losses. Then on Sunday afternoon, they hosted a much tougher opponent from Jean-de-Brébeuf and unfortunately they came up on the short end of a 102-91 result, dropping their season to 2 wins and 4 losses. Their next game will be another home game, played as part of a Men’s Basketball Doubleheader on Sunday, November 25th The Division 1 Men’s Basketball Cheetahs play first VS Outaouais, starting at 1:00 PM, following by the Div.2 Men’s game VS Ahuntsic starting at 3:00 PM.

The Division 1 Lady Basketball Cheetahs were excited to announce the recruitment of Yasmine Gasmi to the Cheetahs family. Yasmine is currently playing for Gérard-Filion high school on the south shore. Head Coach François René said, “Yasmine is a tremendous addition to our program. She comes from a great program, well coached & works extremely hard on and off the court. Her ability to stretch the floor, her passing skills & her passion for the game will make her an impact player right away.” Welcome, Yasmine!





Former Cheetahs star quarterback Hugo Richard (seen at center holding trophy) continues to enjoy tremendous success with the Université de Laval Rouge et Or. In the university league semi-final Uteck Bowl, Richard led his team to a dominating 63-0 home victory over the visiting St. Francis Xavier University X-Men from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, thus advancing to the Vanier Cup finals. Hugo completed 22 of 27 passes for 327 yards and 5 touchdowns in the game. See one of his TD tosses in the following video. Just click here.

Besides Hugo Richard, other former Cheetahs playing for the Rouge et Or include Zack Fitzgerald, Kean Harelimana, Clément Lebreux, Étienne Moisan, Alexandre Savard, and Marc-Antoine Varin. As well, Cheetahs alum Grégoire Bouchard will be playing for the opposing Mustangs from Western University in the Vanier Cup which will be held in Québec City on Saturday, November 24th starting at 1:00 PM. Also worth mentioning is that two former Cheetahs, Justin Howell and Jean-Marc Edmé, will be playing for the Ottawa Redblacks in the upcoming Grey Cup VS the Calgary Stampeders which will be held on Sunday, November 25th starting at 7:00 PM at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium. In the semi-final playoff match against Hamilton on Sunday, November 18th, Justin had six tackles for Ottawa in their big 46-27 win over the Ti-Cats.
