Women's and Gender Studies Major

Vanier’s Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) major develops students’ understanding of gender and sexuality and their role in modern society.

This major offers courses and activities that provide students with an in-depth understanding of gender issues relevant to daily life in the 21st century. Through critical analysis, students examine the role of gender and the position of women in society, while researching contemporary issues related to gender and sexuality. Eligible courses also explore intersecting and related topics such as race and racism, constructions of masculinity, able-ism, socioeconomic impacts, colonialism and decolonization, Indigeneity, climate crisis activism, religious intolerance, barriers to accessing healthcare, and 2SLGBTQI+ rights, among many others. Like all college-wide majors, Women’s and Gender Studies adds value to a student's education by developing an area of knowledge that helps them to navigate, stand out, and succeed in their chosen field.
