WHAT IS WOMEN'S
STUDIES?
Women's
Studies courses provide an understanding of gender issues relevant
to daily life and to career options in the 21st century. The
courses consist of offerings in various disciplines as well as
unique team-taught interdisciplinary courses.
 |
These courses focus
on describing and critically analyzing the position of women
in society: their history and work, their myths and realities,
their minds and bodies, their culture and future possibilities. |
In addition
to academic courses, the Women's Studies Program offers a variety
of activities designed to involve and inform people in the Vanier
Community about issues important to women. Symposia, discussion
sessions, and exhibitions on a range of issues are held every
year. |

WHAT OPTIONS
ARE AVAILABLE IN WOMEN'S STUDIES?
Students in all programs have the option of taking a single course,
a series of courses, or a Major in Women's Studies.
WHAT IS A
MAJOR IN WOMEN'S STUDIES?
A Major consists of completing five (5) of the following courses:
at least 2 must be from Group A; the other 3 may be from Group
A, B or C. It is also possible to take regular courses and focus
on women in assignments. Teachers willing to make this arrangement
are listed in Group C. This allows students in any program to
complete the Major using core and complementary courses. To obtain
the Women's Studies Major Certificate, you must submit an application
form to the Coordinator before you graduate.
N.B. Students
who require specific courses to complete their Major should obtain
an essential course change form from the Women's Studies Coordinator:
