Information for Tutees

  • This is a program where you work directly with a Vanier student who is strong in English to improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
  • This program is free; there is no cost to you.
  • All we ask from you is that you make a firm commitment to meet your tutor once per week for one hour (same time every week).
  • You will work on material that has been especially prepared for you by the English Department.
  • You cannot work on any homework assignments.
  • You will find that working consistently with another student throughout the semester will improve your English.
  • The English Peer Tutoring Program is very rewarding for both tutor and tutee and provides a great opportunity to make friends.
  • If you are interested in practicing your English language skills, take a look at our conversation club.

Information for Tutors

  • We are looking for Vanier College students who would like to tutor (one-on-one) Vanier College second language students in English (helping them with their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills).
  • You will remain with the same student throughout the semester.
  • You must be strong in English, (80% and above in your courses). We ask to see your English marks and a piece of writing that you are proud of.
  • It is not necessary to have previous experience in tutoring as we do provide an intensive training session before you begin.
  • This program lasts throughout the semester and we are looking for people who are willing to make a firm commitment of a minimum of one hour per week.
  • Tutors in the past have found this program to be a very rewarding experience. Click here to read testimonials.
  • By participating in this program, you will have the chance to improve your own writing and communicating skills.
  • In addition, you can add this experience to your curriculum vitae. As well, you will receive a remuneration of approximately $10.04/hour.
  • Please view the list of Eligibility Requirements for becoming a peer tutor.

If you are interested in the English Peer Tutoring Program, please make an appointment with Joanne in The Learning Centre, Room B205,
