Welcome to The Learning Centre! We are a student-orientated centre dedicated to promoting and aiding students' development and success in academics and in society. Whether you want to use our study space for reading or for group work, or if you want to type up an essay in our computer lab, The Learning Centre will always be there for you. Free English Peer Tutoring

English peer tutors are available for Vanier students.
If you are looking for extra help with your English skills, please see Joanne in The Learning Centre (B205) to inquire about having an English peer tutor. Tutors can assist you with conversation, writing and reading skills.

English Exit Exam Workshops

If you are planning on writing the English Exit Exam on May 16th, then please come to the English Exit Exam preparation workshops offered by the Learning Centre. They will be held on the following days and times:

"Preparing for the English Exit Exam" Workshops

This workshop will give you information about the exam: what it looks like, what you will be asked to do, how it is assessed and suggestions on how to write it. We will also discuss tips on what to do to pass the English Exit Exam. All of these workshops are the same; you only need to attend one.

"Practicing for the English Exit Exam" Workshops

This workshop will actually have you practice analyzing a short story from a previous English Exit Exam and preparing an essay of your own. It is recommended that you attend one of the "Preparing for the English Exit Exam workshops prior to one of these. Registration is required! Please click here to register.

Academic Skills Development Workshops

The Learning Centre is offering a series of workshops over the course of H13 to help you further develop your academic skills. Each workshop is thirty minutes and is offered twice during the semester. Students who attend at least three of the workshops will receive a certificate of merit.

Creative Writing Blog

Visit The Learning Centre's creative writing blog! Weekly writing exercises will be posted, and you are all invited to give them a try and leave your work in the comments. I will leave feedback for anyone who wants it.

Feed Hungry People - Vocabulary Game

Improve Your Vocabulary and Feed Hungry People!
The FreeRice Website has two goals:

  • To provide English vocabulary to everyone for free; and
  • To help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

International Education and The Learning Centre are seeking to get the entire Vanier community involved in playing this vocabulary game! For each correct answer, 20 grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Program.
