Staff and students coming to Vanier emit about 475 000 kgs. of CO2 every year in getting to school. It takes about 50,000 trees to absorb this amount of temperature impacting greenhouse gas. We are also facing a parking lot crisis as we are surrounded by other institutions as well as important public transit poles. Getting to Vanier can be a complex task and this is why the institution is committed to improving the lives of commuters and cyclists.

Vanier has a program to encourage its staff to use public transit : Opus & Cie is a program by which you can get a free month of transit if you buy 11 monthly Opus passes. The other month is subsidized by Vanier and by the STM. You can sign up at:

60% of the Vanier community lives within 10 kilometers of the school. This is a reasonable cycling distance for most people. Cycling daily is a great way to stay in shape, fabulously cheap and fun and allows you to reconnect with your community. For cyclists, a few years ago, Vanier installed some great new parking racks. These are conveniently located for you to park near any entrance at Vanier. Vanier also participates in Mon Cegep à Vélo. Finally, an emergency supplies and toolkit is available to you for minor repairs if you are stuck. This can be found in the Sustainability Officer's office in Student Services. It is available to the whole Vanier cycling community.

Great news for cyclists. The Borough of St-Laurent is planning on installing a Bicycle path when they finish with their work on Ste-Croix. This long sought-after bicycle path will establish a crucial link along the busy artery that prevents many of you from trying to cycle to work.
