Research Groups: 2013-2014

There were four research groups in the 2013-2014 academic year:

Group 1: Water quality. Physical, biological and chemical analysis.

Vanier Tap and drinking water is under testing for turbidity, conductivity, metals (Iron, Led), bacteria (e-coli), parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium).

Group 2: Air quality. Physical, biological and chemical analysis. Measurement of radioactive Radon concentration.

Different locations in the basement of Old, New, H and Sports buildings are actually under testing for radioactive Radon emission. Further studies will focus on testing for microorganisms such as mold (fungi) or bacteria but also for Chemical pollutants like Carbon Monoxide.

Group 3: Measurements on acoustics and noise in different classrooms, offices and other populated areas at Vanier.

Different classes are tested for acoustics properties and noise while other populated and traveled locations, like Jake’s mall, are tested for the high level of noise and the effects on student learning abilities.

Group 4: Growing plants under electric and magnetic fields

The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of Electromagnetic Fields on the growth and photosynthesis of the Lima bean plant (Phaseolus lunatus).
