Science Access is designed for recent secondary school graduates who wish to pursue science studies at university and need the opportunity to substantially improve their academic record in order to qualify for a transfer to the pre-university Science Program.

Specifically, the Science Access Program helps students improve their performance in mathematics and science, appreciate the need to express ideas clearly and precisely, clarify the nature of scientific thinking, develop good study habits, learn to persevere and select a suitable field of study.

Students do not apply directly to the Science Access Program. On the basis of their academic transcript including their final provincial results, Science Program applicants may be offered a place in this one-semester transition program.

Science Access students are required to take Introduction to College Mathematics 201-HSG, Introduction to College Chemistry 202-HSG and Introduction to College Physics 203-HSG. In addition they will take Introduction to College Science, which emphasizes study skills, note taking, technical language and time management.

Students in Science Access are assessed at the end of their semester. On the basis of their performance they may be encouraged to apply to the pre-university Science Program or advised to consider another program.
