Graduates are employed by agencies of the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Ministry of Education. School boards hire graduates to work with children and adolescents in integrated and segregated schools. Private non-profit and profit-based services also hire graduates. They are also employed in facilities for the older adults including CLSCs, day-care centres, nursing homes and in-home situations.
Other graduates are employed in organizations, which provide specialized services to individuals and families with special physical, neurological, psychosocial, mental health and developmental needs. These organizations include schools, residential treatment centres, young offender services, youth protection services, family preservation services, shelters, hospitals, sheltered workshops, community centres and day treatment programs, among others. Employers particularly value our graduates for the quality of their training.
The placement rate for graduates of this program is virtually 100%. Starting salaries are about $34,000 a year. Salaries in the private sector may vary. Currently the job market in Montreal is very good; consisting of full-time, part-time, and contract work for qualified Special Care Counsellors. |
