Students enrolled in programs that lead to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) are required to take two complementary courses. These courses must be chosen from fields outside of the student’s field of study according to the rules outlined below.
Complementary courses are divided into CATEGORIES and SETS.
The five Categories are:
- Computer Science
- Social Science
- Arts, Literature and Communication
The Categories are further divided into Sets. Sets are distinguished from one another by the letters S and T:
➤ Set 1: 350-HSA-03
➤ Set 2: 350-HTA-03
- If the complementary courses are taken from the same Category, the courses must be taken from the two different sets.
- If the complementary courses are taken from two different Categories, the rule of Sets does not apply.
- When registering for a complementary course, make sure you pick a section in which the 3 middle characters are letters. For example, if you want to take a history course as a complementary, choose 330-HSA, not 330-910.
Using The Complementary Table Below
To use the table below, simply find your program name under the first “Programs” column of the table and follow the row horizontally. The check marks will be under the headings of the disciplines that students in your program can choose complementaries in.
It should be noted that courses are not offered every semester. Students should consult the Course Schedule when planning to register for complementary courses.
