 The following are the 14 competencies in the Early Childhood Education AEC program.

0190 To examine the job functions of an educator Describe and explain the occupation of an early childhood educator in various establishments, and the conditions surrounding the occupation.
0191 To observe children’s behaviour Identify facts, write an observation report, and evaluate ones’ observation approach.
0192 To assess a child’s needs with respect to their overall development Using observation and an analytical approach, assess the level of overall development of a child 0 to 12 years of age, in accordance with developmental theory, in order to determine which behaviours and skills a child needs to develop.
0193 To function safely in the work environment Arrange a safe environment in the childcare establishment in accordance with the rules of hygiene, prevention, and first aid.  Apply measures intended to safeguard physical and mental health.
0194 To establish an affective relationship with children Identify the affective needs of children 0 to 12 years of age, adopt attitudes that help establish and maintain a significant relationship with a child and a group of children, and assess one’s attitudes
0195 To intervene with respect to a child’s health Intervene with respect to the health of a child 0 to 12 years of age, taking into account all of his or her needs in terms of health and well-being.
0197 To communicate in the workplace Communicate with parents, children, colleagues and resource people in a variety of work situations.
019A To provide support to a child Adapt one’s educational action to take into account all of the needs of preschoolers (0 to 5 years of age) and school-age children (6 to 12 years of age) in different contexts.
019B To use creativity in a work context Seek and develop innovative and personalized solutions and ideas to meet requirements of the occupation.
019D To design activities promoting overall child development Design educational activities intended for a child or a group of children, taking into account the overall development of each child and the orientations of the educational program.
019E To organize educational activities Organize educational activities intended for a child or a group of children in different contexts, taking into account the overall development of each child and the orientations of the educational program.
019F To lead educational activities Lead educational activities in a preschool childcare establishment (e.g. childcare centre, daycare centre, drop-in centre) and in a school daycare, taking into account the orientations of the educational programs of each setting.
019J To intervene with respect to the behaviour of a child or a group of children Implement and evaluate an intervention plan developed for a child or a group of children, on the basis of an analysis of the situation or specific needs.
FJ18 To design and edit documents that are related to the early childhood educational field Summarize and edit texts with regard to publications related to the profession using basic word processing programs.
