Vanier physical education students are required to complete a fitness appraisal in each of their 3 physical education courses (101, 102, 103). The Vanier Fitness appraisal involves tests for cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, agility, balance and body composition.

The same fitness tests will be completed at each fitness appraisal and will be used as a tool to help student asses their personal fitness levels, track their fitness progression, as well as to set personal goals and design a personal fitness program to improve upon areas of weakness. Fitness appraisal assignments will be a part of evaluation for each course; however students are not graded on their fitness levels, rather on the analysis of the results.

The fitness tests include:

  • 12 minute run
  • Curl-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Dip Test
  • Wall squats
  • Side / front plank
  • Line Hops (agility)
  • 1 leg balance test
  • Sit-reach-hold flexibility
  • Vertical jump
  • Waist-to-hip ratio
  • Body Mass Index
