Open Door Network Annual Events

Welcoming display every year

At the beginning of every year the Open Door Network offers a display explaining ODN. This display is to be found in front of the Library (3rd floor, Old Building).

Each Fall and Winter Semester, new students are provided with a brief explanation of the Open Door Network’s purpose and how to find members of the ODN.

Workshops

Every year the Open Door Network holds workshops for Vanier College employees. The purpose of the workshop is to help participants broaden their understanding of issues relating to sexual orientation and sexual identity and to promote understanding and respect for LGBTTTIQ people in the college and beyond. These interactive training sessions address terms and community resources related to sexual orientation and gender identity as well as strategies to confront homophobia, lesbophobia and transphobia in the classroom and at work.

Open Door Network Events

Participation in International Women’s Week

International Women’s Week is a week of activities, discussions, films, conferences that celebrates women and addresses the gender inequities that are still extant. The Open Door Network develops an activity that highlights the full spectrum of women’s sexual orientations and gender identities.

Participation in the International Day Against Homophobia http://www.homophobiaday.org and http://www.idahomophobia.org

Held on May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia is an opportunity for everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity to call for respect for LGBTTTIQ people all over the world.

May 17th was chosen because homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 17th, 1990.

Amongst other activities, a display near the Library informs the Vanier community about the importance of respecting everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
